Deep time. This discussion was inherently spiritual as it called into play the story of life after death. A space in which we do not have any quantitative evidence as what unfolds, just qualitative in the form of stories, religious ideas, near death experiences, altered states of consciousness, etc. Death remains an unknown creating a window of opportunity to speculate what happens next? And creates a mockery of our delusions of knowing who, what and why we are here in the first place.
We discussed stories of creation from the christian idea, or metaphor, of being created by an almighty god from the earth itself and wondered if our present context and digital engagement evolves our creation story to one that could be compared to the matrix; a simulation.
As these different ideas percolated within the container of deep time stories, such as reincarnation, karma, and being our ancestors along with reality as a simulation we could see how stories become an interface to engage with existence and therefore become the stuff of simulation.
Story is our human simulation. Our interface with this existence and throughout the week’s two discussions having a story of deep time, of our essence carrying forth into the future and the past, creates us as the ingredients our world needs to come back into balance. Just as the story of an all powerful god watching over us incentivised the practice of being a good brother, neighbour, partner and overall human.
What is the story of your simulation and is it simulating you?
Wonder, awe and listening puts the mind and ego in the backseat and opens up the windows to health, vitality and possibility. Like a glowing child in awe of existence, has a direct present bodily connection to real time information fed by the sun to our mitochondria who then switch off irrelevant cells/information and switch on the relevant cells/information. Wonder and awe opens us up to the relevant simulation, the relevant story, and this is a vital ingredient for our optimal health.
Our bodies are a living connection to deep time. Therefore listening to them is an access point to our ancestors.
We discussed simulations and stories that we have become attached too and how they limit us and become cancerous to life itself. We become grey, old and lifeless relative to our old simulation, worldview and story.
A use of deep time beliefs trims away influence, trivial complaints and obsessions. When this life is but one in a million, a new context is brought to the everyday sufferings. When we understand that our unchallenged fears persist into the next life if not challenged then a certain opportunity in decision making takes place. Are we more likely to invest in our internal, soul’s development than our material existence when we cannot take our material rewards through to the next life?
Intuition, dreams, fears and even suffering have powerful rewards within a context of deep time. Imagine if we understood a context of multiple lives leading to a life in which a man became a murderer. Imagine if we understood that this life was an ultimate lesson that his courageous soul willingly invited as a gift of wisdom to all. A karmic lesson, a karmic sentence in which he was living out. Would this inspire compassion and even forgiveness?
And what about for ourselves? If we understood that we asked for this present life from the previous one or the space in-between, would this give us more agency? Would our capacity in accepting all that life throws at us increase, could it even stimulate a wonder and awe for all of the suffering we endure? Would we be able to forgive and let go of measuring ourselves up with the latest moral and influential trends?
Deep time seems to be a framework that delivers numerous benefits to our lives personally and interpersonally. A beneficial simulation and interface that balances the qualitative values with quantitative, the feminine with the masculine and opens up our reality to wonder, awe and magical possibility.
So how do we plant the story of deep time within society?
When we pursue a dream, step through the threshold of fear, when we leap into the unknown we crack open the world of possibility and magic. New stories, interfaces and perspectives slip through. Perhaps this is the key to bringing forth the story of deep time.
In order to affect society at large we as a people need a fearful threshold to walk through, a singing intuition drawing us into the unknown, a ritual to plant the seed.
What is the closest step you know to take that you are fearful to make?
