the human group - session 98 - reminisce

TOPIC

Let us indulge in an enjoyable recollection of the past year.

What character did you find yourself playing and what mission were they on?

What were the challenges, the highs, the lows?

If we could place a genre upon the film of 2021 what would it be?

This week’s human group we will take the time to acknowledge the year, the work, the joys, the breakthroughs, the loss and whatever else magical that occurred for you in this irretrievable year.

The last human group of the year. Wednesday the 13th on zoom. No in-person this week.

REFLECTION

Just an online discussion this week. Numbers seem to be dwindling, possibly due to Christmas coming up and the lack of marketing. This is an open group and everyone is welcome to join.

Our small and intimate discussion with a few loyal humans was a gentle wandering through the year, reminiscing and discussing what it is to reminisce.

Reminisce - to indulge in an enjoyable recollection of the past.

The ‘enjoyable’ aspect of the definition definitely adds a positive angle to the word; Reminisce. This does not mean it is exclusively a positive thing, it could be an addiction to reminisce upon enjoyable recollections of the past and miss the moment. We paused upon the semantics of the word until we bravely shared some enjoyable recollections of the past.

Periods of synchronicity in which habitual pressures fell away to reveal an abundance of joy in receiving the present moment. Walking with our family members along the beach, watching and participating in the contagious joy of an animal member of the family, absorbing nature, losing ourselves in a discussion with a loved one, creating an experience for another that is received with joy and a softening gratitude that inspires energy, love and confidence.

We soon discovered that what we reminisce upon are relationships and the feelings of love that surround the past moment in retrospect. The feelings may not have been experienced during the moment but can be felt in reflecting upon them.

From this realisation emerged a contrasting observation. From my human point of view I put more energy into quantitative goals in the future only to reminisce on the qualitative experiences that happened along the way. Personally I do not find myself looking back upon achievements. Maybe this is because I do not have any stand out achievements that have been realised or reflected upon. Or, as the group pointed out, what we reminisce upon is perhaps a clear reflection of what we truly value, a reflection of where our hearts rest in this world.

Using this idea, perhaps we can dream and strive for goals that deliver the results of which we naturally reminisce upon. What recollections do you indulge upon with joy? Can this be a clue from which we can derive our inherent nature and then willingly align it with congruent goals?

Doing an intentional reminiscing upon the past year of 2022 is a gift of pause we can give ourselves to acknowledge the multidimensional journey we have been upon. A psychedelic roller coaster of emotions, visions, dreams, stories, relationships, entertainment, etc all at once continuously. What an amazing marathon we are upon. Or perhaps it’s a slow pilgrimage back to the universe.

We are spirits inhabiting a wild human animal and our spirits reminisce upon the human embodied experience.

A brief perennial realisation shedding light upon traditional cultures understanding the interpersonal dynamics between what Carl Jung called the ‘id’, the human animal/collective subconscious and our ego and higher selves.

Sometimes I feel like I am a scurrying mouse or ant; working busily for something I am unaware of. Older cultures seemed to understand the different cycles of nature that affected humans as we move through time. Now we are flat-out trying to create meaning from our egos giving us a hard time to collaborate with our inherent nature. Perhaps the age I am residing within is a natural time of busy-ness and hard work preparing for the next stage of life.

What we reminisce upon gives us a window to the moments of alignment. All conditions, masks, expectations have dropped, allowing our spirit to enjoy the simple complexity of existing in relationship with everything residing within the present infinite moment.
